With so many contemporary evangelical voices calling for “redefining”, “rethinking”, “remaking,” and “repackaging” Christian worship, now comes a new voice for reclaiming its sacred and traditional precepts for worshipping God through sung prayer. Praised by some of the world’s leading authorities in the church music field, It’s All About HYMN: Essays on Reclaiming Sacred and Traditional Music for Worship opens up new doors to dialogue, sheds light on factors that influence the Western Christian worship model, and challenges all Christians to reassess how they approach the act of worship.

"In
It's All About HYMN, Donn provides well-informed, scripturally based criteria by which to select and use music appropriate for worship of our holy God. All who are serious about corporate worship will greatly benefit from a careful study of this thought-provoking book.” --Dr. Gary Gilley, Author of This Little Church Went to Market; This Little Church Stayed Home; Is That You, Lord?: Hearing the Voice of the Lord, A Biblical Perspective.

For a Higher Purpose: The Significance and Meaning of Sacred and Traditional Music for Christian Worship ($16.99, 2012, approx. 200 pages. In their own words, performers, participants, and planners reveal how and why sacred music is important to the Christian church and Christian worship.

For a Higher Purpose contains scripturally derived, spiritually discerned wisdom from music directors, cantors, worship leaders, choir directors, congregations, and church musicians on the importance of sacred and traditional music to The Church in general as well as individual houses of worship. Also included are music suggestions for the Christian seasons and liturgical elements.

For a Higher Purpose offers biblically sound, discerned guidance for selecting music for worship. Inappropriate worship music choices or music that does not represent the best of church music criteria often send mixed messages to congregations. Some music choices that entertain and induce shallow emotional "highs" are but a symptom of contemporary movements and philosophies that threaten the integrity and sufficiency of Scripture, and draw us away from meaningful communion--not as we want but as God deserves.

When Jude wrote about "our common salvation," he also felt compelled to appeal that we "contend earnestly for the faith which was once and for all handed down to the saints." Jude was troubled by individuals who had "crept in unnoticed" - a reference to false teachers and false teachings.

Our current church generation is probably the most scripturally unaware since the Reformation. People not having a solid understanding of God's Word fall easy prey to articulate, personable individuals who nonetheless offer false theological doctrine and ideas. The post-modern questioning and even denial of absolute Truth often slips into the hallowed halls of churches by way of "positive upbeat music" that promotes and fulfills a felt-needs, entertainment paradigm often clothed in para-Christian lyrics. Such music is both lyrically and musically devoid of the qualities that reinforce the purpose of worship, and can easily allow secular viewpoints into sanctuaries.

Challenges to the Sufficiency of Scripture: Dance, Drama, and Other Diversions Used in Christian Worship (2012-2013, approx. 200 pages. Dance and drama "ministries" are popping up everywhere in many churches today. While they appear to be harmless creative expressions on the surface, they are in fact entertainment distractions that challenge the very sufficiency of Scripture. In fact, excessive use of skits, dance, and drama as used in corporate worship strongly suggest a church's inability to perform an exegesis of Scripture; therefore, the congregation becomes an audience for these distractions. Isaiah 55:11 (NRSV) states that God’s word will infallibly perform the purpose for which he sent it: "so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it."

The truthfulness of the Bible and the effectiveness of its various parts to accomplish God’s purpose is directly related to the trustworthiness and sovereignty of God himself. As Martin Luther wrote: "A man’s word is a little sound that flies into the air and soon vanishes; but the Word of God is greater than heaven and earth, yea greater than death and hell, for it forms a part of the power of God and endures everlastingly."

A fool’s erranD--that’s wha the world’s most vocal atheists are doing when they send their fans and followers out into the world armed with their humanistic, relativistic philosophies. But have you noticed that in the books, debate transcripts, media interviews, and articles by such leading atheists as Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Bart Ehrman, and Sam Harris there’s considerable disdain for rather than disbelief in an Almighty God? For individuals who claim to be atheists, they devote much of their effort condemning a God they claim they don’t believe in. Why is that? In an apparent attempt to strengthen their arguments for the non-existence of God (when they aren't disparaging him), they incite their followers with misconceptions, half-truths, falsehoods, and lies about the Christian faith. It's nothing new; Christians have been hearing the same parroted pabulum for centuries. The Truth, in fact, is out there; however, for many it is much easier to cling desperately to the vital lies they have created and perpetuated rather than embrace the simple truths that are available.

In
A Fool's Errand, author Donn LeVie Jr. reveals some of the irrational, illogical, and irresponsible approaches atheists use to bolster their resolve to deny and defy that which "God has made plain to them." Engaging such individuals in discussions can be frustrating, but we must do so out of love and understanding as the Apostle Paul reminds us, never starting from a netural position because neutrality in such discussions is a myth.

Known by the Company They Keep: The Failure of Post-Modern Philosophers and Their Ideologies as Viable Worldviews (2013, approx. 200 pages. Foucault, Nietzsche, Russell, Sartre, Heidegger, Montague, and Rorty among others were leading philosophers of the 19th and 20th centuries. They were atheists; some were communists; others were Nazi sympathizers; many lived decadent, libidinous, immoral lives that conflicted with their own fragmented philosophical systems. And one of the most bankrupt philosophies to emerge from these and other individuals is the idea of post-modernism.

Post-modernism’s failure was not to understand the true knowledge of reality. Essentially, post-modernism claims that we have reached the end of human history; there is nothing new to pursue, nothing new to know because the “only absolute truth is that there are no absolute truths.” Even that statement violates the post-modern premise. In
Known by the Company They Keep, Donn LeVie, Jr. details the failures of both philosophers who were epistemologically self-unaware (did not engage life in a way that comports with their theory of knowledge) and their ideologies as viable worldviews.

While an individual’s personal behavior has no bearing on the validity of the truth they claim to embrace, hypocrisy emerges when their words and actions are in conflict with the worldview they profess. The moral failures of high-profile Christians such as Ted Haggard, Jim Baaker, and Jimmy Swaggart do not detract from the truth of the Christian worldview; instead, the Truth remains unchanged and fixed while all humans undergo moral failings of varying degrees. To fault the teachings of Jesus for the weaknesses in Christians--and others--is to misplace the blame.

Christianophobia: The Rapid Rise of Anti-Christian Rhetoric and Violence Around the Globe ($16.99; 2013, approx. 200 pages. The Bible tells us in Acts 6:8-8:1 that Stephen was the first Christian martyr and that Paul, prior to his conversion, not only witnessed the event, he was an accomplice, holding the garments of those casting the stones. Hate-tinged rhetoric and violence against Christians has increased rapidly around the world in recent years. Most Christians know of violence against Iraqi and Pakistani Christians and against Christians in other Muslim countries, but the recent increase in hostile treatment of Christians in India, a largely Hindu culture, has many alarmed. History has shown that a person forced to convert to any religion at the end of a sword or gun remains a person unconvinced. In
Christianophobia, Donn LeVie explores the deeper significance and causes for such vitriolic rhetoric and deadly violence against Christians around the world.

There's No Such Thing as an Atheist: Self-Deception Disguised as Moral Autonomy (2014, approx. 200 pages. ISBN: 978-0-9814857-x-x); trade paper, available through Ingram Distribution for bookstores everywhere as well as Amazon.com, CreateSpace.com, Barnes&Noble.com, and other online retailers. eBook version will be available for download.

Atheism as a worldview is impossible, despite the proclamations of Nietzsche, Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris, and others. Atheism is a form of self-deception that is simply the negation of Christianity. There is no "atheist manifesto" or foundation of "beliefs" other than man's moral superiority without the need for a supreme being as ultimate source. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 1 that the knowledge of God is written in all men's hearts, and is even made manifest in the created order; however, people choose to deny his existence, even when they have been imbued with the very knowledge to the contrary. Atheists consistently borrow from the Christian worldview without acknowledging it;it is impossible for them to live in a purposeless, random, aimless, and irrelevant universe. When the late great Christian apologist and theologist Dr. Greg Bahnsen debated the atheist Gordon Stein, he claimed victory before the debate began, because Stein assumed they would use the rules of logic in debate, and the laws of logic are everywhere universal and constant, destroying any notion of "randomness" to the world. Even doing science would not be possible without consistent, repeatable processes operating in the world and universe.

In
There's No Such Thing as an Atheist, Donn explores many of the false assumptions and beliefs as well as the many erroneous claims and critiques by atheists of Scripture.

A Different Set of Assumptions: How the Arrogance of Atheism Taints True Science and Discovery. (2014, approx. 200 pages. ISBN: 978-0-9814857-x-x); trade paper, available through Ingram Distribution for bookstores everywhere as well as Amazon.com, CreateSpace.com, Barnes&Noble.com, and other online retailers. eBook version will be available for download.

Secular humanist philosopher David Hume wrote “When men are most sure and arrogant they are commonly most mistaken, giving views to passion without that proper deliberation which alone can secure them from the grossest absurdities.” And what greater height of epistemological arrogance (and positive “spin”) among atheists and secularists than to seemingly campaign against arrogance itself. Such pretense to humility on the subject only points to their being the kings of false modesty. In truth, their arrogance becomes crystallized in their vehement assertions against the existence of God and their affirmations of man-derived knowledge. Oh, how they are so sure!

In
A Different Set of Assumptions, readers will have a better understanding of how the underlying assumptions about God, truth, and knowledge offered by the arrogance of secularism leaves a stain on the philosophy and practice of true science and discovery.
